The Africa Institute for Grassroots Democracy and Development Studies (AIGDDS) is an independent, Pan-African, non-profit research and training institute dedicated to advancing democracy, good governance, and sustainable development across the African continent.

Founded on the conviction that true democracy and progress must grow from the grassroots, AIGDDS provides a platform for intellectual engagement, evidence-based policy research, and practical interventions that empower citizens, institutions, and communities.

Our Mandate

The mandate of AIGDDS is to serve as a continental think-tank and action centre that:

Generates and disseminates knowledge on grassroots democracy and development.
Provides evidence-based policy advice to governments, civil society, and regional organizations.
Builds leadership and institutional capacity for effective governance and community development.
Fosters dialogue, partnerships, and civic engagement aimed at strengthening national and continental integration.

Leadership and Governance

AIGDDS is led by a Director General and governed by a Board of Trustees and Advisory Council made up of distinguished scholars, practitioners, and development experts. The Institute operates through specialized research clusters and programmatic divisions across its focus areas.
